While not shown on the official Japanese website, a new Tamagotchi model is on its way to Japanese retailers. A rough translation of the Japanese site says the following: (Careful: This translation is rough, so not all information may be correct.)

New communication system that you'll want to show off!
New for Tamagotchi:
* Changeable accessory (shell?)
* Characters personality can be altered.
* You can keep the same character forever.
* You can overwrite existing games and items with new ones by downloading them.

New Tamagotchi Anime in Japan!

A new Tamagotchi animated series, simply titled Tamagotchi!, will be airing this month in Japan. The series appears to focus on Mametchi and his friends spending time in a Hollywood-like town, meeting celebrities and having adventures.

Some returning characters include Mametchi, Memetchi, Kuchipatchi, Makiko, Flowertchi, KuroMametchi, ChaMametchi, and Kikitchi. Four new characters will be introduced as well. One of them is Lovelitchi, a white cotton-ball like character who appears to be a famous celebrity. The other three's names have yet to be translated.

Unlike the original animated series, episodes will be half an hour with two stories each (not any different from American animated cartoons, such as Spongebob). Currently, a dub of the new anime has yet to be announced.

OM21: Tamagotchi Music City Tips, Part 3: Weekly Competitions

OsuMesu21 here, with tips on how to be the number one star in Music City! Since Music City is one of the biggest things to happen to Tamagotchi, I thought it'd be great to help other users make the most of the newest Tamagotchi experience.

Today, we'll be discussing one of the most exciting aspects of Music City: The weekly competitions!

What is it?
Every week, Tamagotchi Music City holds a musical competition to see which band is the best, both in music and in popularity. There are plenty of prizes too!

How do I sign up? When does it take place?
Registration for the competitions is available every week, from Monday to Friday. The competition game will be available to play from Saturday to Sunday.

To register, visit the Concert Hall in Downtown, and head over to the Registration desk, where you'll see Rosetchi.

Once you've talked to her and registered, you will receive a letter in your inbox with the competition information.

What do I need to be allowed to register?
All you need to do is be logged in as any character and have a CD featured. That's it!

How do I play the game?
First, you must wait until Saturday for the game to be available! When the competition has officially begun, you will see the two big doors in the Concert Hall open.

Once you walk through the doors, it will show you this:

There are two ways to start the game: one with flashing animations in the background, and one without. The second option's typically for users with slower computers.

After clicking Start, it will show you a little intro, and then present you with your judges. Whichever judges you get will determine how difficult the game will be.

The "Gotchi King Family" (Gotchi King, Gotchi Queen, and Princess Tamakoko) and the "Music Star Judges" (Don Big Boss Gotchi, Bill, and Glasuntchi), for example, are the "toughest", as their patterns go all over the screen.

The "Teachers" (Mr. Turtlepedia, Principal Mimizu, and both male and female Puchioyatchi) and the "Reporters" (Reportchi, Guidetchi, and Depagatchi) are the easiest, with patterns only coming from the left and right side of the screeen.

And for moderate difficulty, meaning patterns from all sides but in smaller groups, the judges are the "Paparazzi" (male and female Scooptchi, and female Paparatchi), and the "Celebrities" (Teitokutchi, Tonotchi, and Elizabethtchi).

Of all of these, the Gotchi King Family will give you the highest possible score - the maximum possible combo is 59, giving a score of 6780!

The game starts off looking like this:

On the top left is your score meter. To the bottom right is the judges. In the top right is the clock, and on the bottom left is the "Excitement Meter". In the background, your featured CD will play corresponding with the time.

In the center, you have four directional buttons and long bars. Small dots will appear sliding along those bars and hit the arrows, and when they do, the arrow will change color - from yellow to pink. Your objective is to hit these buttons once they change colors. You may hit them either by pressing the corresponding directional key on your keyboard, or by clicking on the arrow with your mouse.

If you hit the arrow at just the right moment, you will get "GREAT" from the judges. This starts off a combo, and if you keep it going, your score will skyrocket. With each hit in a combo, the Excitement Meter will start to fill up. Once it's filled, the stage will light up, and your score will go much higher!


Once the game is over, the judges will show you your final score and voice their opinion on your performance. Afterward, you can leave or do whatever you like, or head back in and try the game again for a better score. Remember, try to get a high score on both Saturday and Sunday to insure being on the top 30!

What about voting?
This part is much more difficult than the game itself! Once you're in the competition, fans can vote for their favorite band. To vote for a band, talk to Monsieur Kikipapa, who stands right next to Rosetchi at the desk.

You will be given a list of some of the bands in the current competition. You can scroll through the list by holding your mouse over the up or down directional arrows, and if you want to see more bands, press the "Reload" button on the bottom of the list, and new bands will appear.

When you want to check out a band, just click on them. You will be shown that band, plus an opposing band. You'll be able to see how many votes each band has had, and you can listen to their featured CD. From there, you can choose to vote for one of them, or exit and look for other bands.

You can vote for bands starting on Saturday, and ending on Thursday. (although, you can vote on Friday too, but it's completely pointless...)

Is there anything else that influences my score?
Yes, there is! How many users visit your apartment and listen to your CD have an impact on your final score. After you compete, on the days leading up to Friday, you should do your best to become well-known in the Tamagotchi Music City community. People visiting your room and listening to your music have just as much influence on your score as actually voting!

So what happens on Friday?
Once the clock strikes midnight and the competition has finished, you will receive a letter in your inbox telling you how you placed in the competition. Also, once you've finished reading it, your trophy (if you earned one) will appear in your item inventory. Head over to the Concert Hall and talk to Rosetchi to receive your cash prize.

The third, second, and first place winners will also be featured in Gotchi Records!


Also, to see more results, visit the Concert Hall and check out the machine called "Result". It will tell you who placed first through tenth place. There's also a "Special" category, but I don't know what it means...

And one final note. In your apartment, hanging from the top right of your room, is a monitor wearing a crown. If you click on it, it'll show your competition history: which competitions you participated in, who was in your band, and what place you've earned. You can view other people's results by visiting their apartment and clicking on theirs.

On a special note, if you login with all 38 characters, you get the special item decoration All Star Poster. Just remember the thing take up nearly half of your wall space, so be smart about using it.


Also, when you login as certain characters, you get a doll for that character. This is limited to Mametchi, Memetchi, Kuchipatchi, Gozarutchi, Ichigotchi, ChaMametchi, and Kikitchi.

OM21: Tamagotchi Music City in Spanish!

Bandai has just updated Tamagotchi Music City to include a complete Spanish edition!

Tamagotchi Music City Español

The Spanish edition is great because it destroys language barriers. Anybody with a Tamagotchi Music Star can use Music City, and the text is limited to speech bubbles with pre-added text. Since both the Spanish and English editions run on the same server, a person may use it in Spanish and their speech will appear in English on the other user's computer!

I can't wait to see if Tamagotchi Music City gets more languages in the future. :)

OM21: Tamagotchi Music City Tips, Part 2

OsuMesu21 here, with tips on how to be the number one star in Music City! Since Music City is one of the biggest things to happen to Tamagotchi, I thought it'd be great to help other users make the most of the newest Tamagotchi experience.

For this next post, we'll be talking about the Apartments! Gotchi Apartments gives each user their own room, which they can edit with whatever door, wallpaper, floor, furniture, windows, items, toys, instruments, and decorations that they like.


Each room starts off completely empty. Those two televisions in the corner tell stats about the user; the left one shows what place they've reached in competitions, and the right tells which characters they've used on Music City.

When you play games in Music City, you earn money (points) that can be used to purchase items. Most stuff can be bought at The Funky Gotchi, the store to the left of the fountain in the Shopping District. Next to that store is Gotchi Guitar, which sells 18 of the 21 Music Star instruments.

(Take note - all of the Toys for the Music Star can be bought in The Funky Gotchi. Instruments and toys can be transferred to your Music Star toy whenever you like!)

Generally, when you've begun to buy things, you'd like to start editing your room to reflect yourself. There are several different kinds of rooms you can design...


Here's an example of a great room. The window and sliding doors give the feeling that the room is much larger, and the rest of the room follows a general theme (Japanese).

Here's another terrific example:


This one is very roomy and warm, and the chandelier is an added bonus. I'd like to see many more rooms like these someday.

Now, he's an example of what you DON'T want.


Rooms like this are what I call "Showoff" rooms - rather than focusing on looking nice and having a sort of functionality, these act more like warehouses to show everything the user owns. Extreme showoff rooms will often be littered with trophies or donation items. Rather than draw users in, these may actually freak them out.

And there's the third kind, "Crowded" rooms.


Yes, that was my room until today. Crowded rooms often have a user try showing off nice things while staying neat and organized, but end up running out of room. Walls of a room are very vulnerable to end up being crowded, so pay very close attention to what you're adding to your room. Crowded rooms aren't as bad as showoff rooms, but can still be bothersome. (See in this one, where the Truth of Kuchipatchi is covering the Big Screen? Big mistake!)

So in general, keep three things in mind when you design your room:

• Make sure to define a proper function for your room before you add its form. Think first before adding decorations.
• Keep an eye on your money. Lots of furniture and items means lots of money, so don't blow it on a decoration that you'll never use.
• Try to follow a general pattern or theme. For example, putting the "Sunshine" window next to a "Winter" window is a big mistake.

Keep these in mind when you make your room, and you'll be more happy with your end result. Invite people to view and enjoy it too, and if you design it right, they won't leave unsatisfied.

OM21: Tamagotchi Music City Tips, Part 1

OsuMesu21 here, with tips on how to be the number one star in Music City! Since Music City is one of the biggest things to happen to Tamagotchi, I thought it'd be great to help other users make the most of the newest Tamagotchi experience.

Today, we'll be going over one of the most important tricks to getting lots of attention on Music City - your character!

There's a total of 40 unique characters on your Music Star toy. Of these, you can use 38 on Music City; the two costume characters (Spotchi and Mocatchi) do not appear. Characters have possibly the biggest impact on other users; if you have a rare character or if you have a fan favorite, you're more likely to get lots of room visits and friend request.

And to gain even more attention, buy costumes for your character to wear. Only teens, adults, and seniors can wear costumes, and prices can range from as low as 500 points to as high as 20 thousand. This is directly related to which character you actually use; Dreamitchi and Dazzilitchi have the most expensive costumes on all of Music City!

So how do you get attention? Other than playing the games and entering the contest, the best and easiest solution is visiting either the Entrance or Downtown, especially when they're crowded. The Entrance serves as the gate where users appear, and Downtown is the heart of Music City, so of all of Music City, you'll find more people there than anybody else.

All you need to do is walk around for a bit, and maybe say hello to other users to start conversations. You may even invite people to your Apartment (which I'll talk about in my next entry). Sometimes you don't even need to talk to somebody to get friends requests - they may come to you, or might send you a request without saying anything at all.

Remember, you don't need to have the special adults to be popular on Music City. As long as you take good care of your Music Star and visit Music City often, you'll see your friends list grow in leaps and bounds. :)

OM21: Tamagotchi Music Star Secret Character!

Funny enough, right after my last post, Kikitchi evolved into Mametchi!

Seeing that I've had him plenty of times before, I decided I might transform him. But first, I let his bandmates evolve into adults. Hinotamatchi became KuroMametchi, and Ringotchi became Makiko. Their performance for the judges went down great, and they became pros, starting at 9th Rank.

So then I went into my item invetory, and use the special item Boy's Destiny Star (thanks to Spudilike for helping me get it!). A star appeared between his toy and instrument, and it showered stars all around the screen, and suddenly, Mametchi was replaced with a Dreamitchi!

The pictures above aren't as great as my last ones, because they were taken when I was using the camera's video recording mode and took screencaps of certain poses. I'll be sure to get more pictures soon!

I'm not sure what sort of personality he has, because Bandai has yet to release a Music Star character guide (or a V5 Celebrity one, for that matter!), but so far, he's a really cool character. My only bug though, is that he seems to love his original Guitar over every other instrument, and I have ALL of the instruments! It's always his favorite, even when I give him the Wild Guitar. What's up with that?

But while he's lock in on his favorite instrument, his favorite music genre is constantly changing. So far, he picks between Asian, Rock-n-Roll, Classical, Pop, and R&B; he's won 1st ranking for all 5 of these. He has yet to even try the other three (Latin, Jazz, and Hip Hop) for some reason...I keep switching toy and instrument, but he's still stuck with those 5. I guess it's affected by his favorite instrument...

Tamagotchi music city log-in code

Many visitors of this blog have been asking for a login code to use on the new Tamagotchi Music City (Tamatown for the Tamagotchi Music Star). So I decided to put the log-in code I use to enter Tamatown. Anyone who does not have a Tamagotchi Music Star can still log into the new Tamatown by these steps:

1. Go to www.tamatown.com
2. Click the big guitar in the middle of the page to go to Music City
3. If you haven't done so already, create a free account and log into Music City with your User ID and User Password.

OM21: Music Star Generation 7

So Otokitchi left, and I began my seventh generation of my Music Star! I named him after myself, "OsuMesu", something I've never done before.

He evolved into a Kuchitamatchi. I haven't had him in a while, so it was nice to see him again. :) I gave him the instrument Guitar, and the toy Bandai logo.

He evolved into Kikitchi, and formed a band with a Hinotamatchi named Toby and a Ringotchi named Thu. Their band is called "Clover!", and right now, they're into Rock-n-Roll. 

Hopefully he'll be evolving into an adult tomorrow. In the meantime, here are a few pictures of him as a child and teen:


Seems he really loves those Easter eggs. :P

He did the animation today too, even though it's now May. Wait... just checked, he thinks it's April 26th. Oh boy. 9_9 I'll fix that later.

Hey, it's OsuMesu21

Hello everybody! Welcome to Familitchi! :)

You might know me as OsuMesu21, from Tama-Zone. If you don't, let me tell you about myself: I'm a Tamagotchi lover from way back in 1997. I've got a growing collection of Tamagotchi pets, new and old, English and Japanese. I heard this blog was looking for another writer, and how could I pass up the opportunity? ^_^

I'm also the creator of the "Clover Edition Tamagotchi", a Tamagotchi concept I created several years ago. It's basically an idea of how to make a Tamagotchi that's not only technologically advanced, but also appeal to Tamagotchi's very broad audience. Yes, more people than just girls love and collect these things. :P

Just to start off, here's a picture I took of my Music Star today. I'm raising an Otokitchi named Yuki, her husband Dorotchi, and a baby boy. After 6 generations, the baby will be my second boy...I've had way too many girls on this version. xD


I wonder why Otokitchi looks nervous? It's just a bunny and its eggs.

Tamagotchi + Color - Gorippatchi

Sorry for the lack of posts guys. Many of you have been sending me emails asking me why I haven't been making any posts lately...well I've been uber busy unfortunately (I like it better when I don't have anything to do ;P). ugh I hate studying, I really really HATE studying! (-_-). I can't wait for these exams to be over. Anyway, I've been taking pictures and saving them for when I had some free time to update this blog.

I'll start by mentioning the Tamagotchi Music star. Well since last time I got another unhealthy adult character: Gozarutchi :(. I have no idea why I got him since I've been taking really good care of him. It was really disappointing and a real let down. I've decided to pause the Tamagotchi Music Star for now. I might be logging him again in the future, but now is definetely not the time. As I've already said, I'm too busy right now to be taking care of such a high maintenance pet. However if you have any questions about the Tamagotchi Music star, don't hesitate to leave me messages. I always make sure that I answer most of the comments that I get.
Anywyay, before I pulled out the battery I took a quick picture of him:


And I have some good news: I finally got Gorippatchi!! Oh I was so happy to finally get her. As some of you might recall I've had a Memetchi. Well a few days ago she became Otokitchi and after she got married she had a baby girl :D The baby girl grew up immediatley into Gorippatchi (she skipped the child and teen stage alltogether). I took some pictures of her:

I've also decided to put the TMGC+C on hold for now. The reason for this is because I fianlly managed to get my hands on a Familitchi/V5 :D. It's second hand but still in perfect conditions. I bought it from eBay along with 6 other tamagotchis (all second hand but they all work) , all for just $20 :D. This is a picture of my V5:

After seeing the new designs of the Tamagotchi Music Star, I have to admit that the design of my V5 is sooo last year...and a bit too girly for my taste. But anyways, it's the V5 and I've been wanting to get one for so long now. I can't beleive that I finally got one :). I'm also adding a picture of one of the tamagotchis that arrived with the V5:

It's a P1 (from 1997). I love vintage tamagotchis :D This is the very very first version of tamagotchis: the one that started it all. They're so simple yet so cute.

My Tamagotchi Music Star - died :(

Here's a picture for all those who have a music star and are curious to know what happens when it dies:


For any of you wondering: yes, my Tamagotchi Music star died. I forgot to pause it when I went to school today and it died. I know that it's unfair that I have a tamagotchi music star and that I'm not enjoying it, but the truth is I simply don't like this version at all :( It's just so different and it requires so much attention, even feeding this tama is a chore: you have to buy food every time. Not to mention that it's a nightmare using the buttons. I understand that there are many people who are truly enjoying this Tamagotchi and I completely respect that. There are some nice new features such as the new interactive Tama Town. People who are into the latest music fad (American Idol, High School Musical etc...) will really enjoy this tamagotchi. But personally I think that the music theme gets in the way of the simple joys of raising a virtual pet.

Now I haven't really given up all hope on the TMS just yet :) I'm gonna give it one last try and I'm really going to try and enjoy it this time. So here goes:


I pressed the A and C button to start a new generation and waited for the egg to hatch: I got a boy this time :) Also notice that I received a robot for the Tamagotchi to play with and his instrument is a saxaphone...I'm betting that the future band will be big on Jazz Music :D

I named my new baby boy: Xander (some of you might be noticing a pattern here ;p).

An hour later, Xander grew up into Kutchitamatchi who is another vintage favourite of mine :)

I really hope that this log will be better than the last one (which lacked a lot of energy and enthusiasm...my fault, I know). Even though this is my least favourite Tamagotchi version so far, I'm going to try my best to be more enthused with it. Check back soon :D

Tamagotchi Music star - Masktchi

Oh I'm so disappointed with myself :( I got a Masktchi as my first adult character on my Music star. As many of you might now, Masktchi is the unhealthiest character you can get and results from very bad care. Now although I admit that I wasn't taking perfect care of my music star, i'm sure that I did not take horrible care of it. I think that I ended up with this character because I was feeding baby food to Cordy and apparently this is not enough to fill up the hungry hearts. Baby food is the defualt food item and it never gets used up so you can feed your tama as much of this food as you want. However baby food should only be given to babies and for toddlers and older charcters, you need to buy food from the shop. Now I really hated this new feature because you have to spend a lot of money buying extra food which can only be used once. The same applies to snacks. Anyway, here's a picture of my Masktchi:

The other band members also grew up. I now have an Onputchi and a Kutchipatchi. Here's a picture of them (note that they now play pop music):


Also I have some different news. I bought a Mothra Tamagotchi for just $4! :D How cool is that? For those who don't know what a Mothra Tamagotchi is: Bandai issued this version during the released of the Japanese movie: Mothra 2. I won't be taking care of this tamagotchi just yet because I'm already taking care of the Tamagotchi Music Star and the TMGC+C. But when I do decide to take care of it I will be logging it here. Tamagotchi Music Star - Chamametchi

Hello everyone. Well since last time I logged about my Tamagotchi Music Star, my Tamatchi grew up into Chamametchi. I think I like her better on the TMC+C but she's kawai none-the-less :) She grew up yesterday but by that time it was dark outside so I couldn't take pictures of her (best tamagotchi pictures are taken in natural light).


I've been learning some new stuff about this Tamagotchi version. I'm still finding it a bit confusing, but hopefully I'll figure it all out by the second generation. I'm finding this version to be very similar to the V4 and V4.5. For example, you have three types of skill-points to raise (although now they're referred to as music-skill-points). There is also pre-school for toddlers (Mrs Frill makes a comeback too :D). Just this morning, Cordy (you might recall that that's what I called my tama) left pre-school and joined two other characters (Nonopotchi and Ichigotchi) and together they formed a band. You get to give a name to the band, I called the band: the Limes ! :) Don't ask me why, I just thought that it sounded cool. Here's a picture of them together:


Also, it seems that the Limes play only Asian music. I don't really know what determines the kind of music they play, maybe it depends on the music skill points earned?


That's it for today, I'll try to make regular updates but it's a bit difficult for me right now, cos I'm soooo busy with school work and studying. I have some big exams coming my way. I can't wait till they're all over :D

Tamagotchi Music Star - Received it today :D

My Tamagotchi Music Star arrived in the mail today. I must admit that my anticipatory (is that a word? ...it is now :D) experience was a mixture of dread and curiosity. To tell the truth I'm still not sure how I feel about this Tamagotchi version. I'm not sure how the whole music theme is going to be incorporated with the familiar experience of raising a tamagotchi. However it's still early for me to say if I like the Tamagotchi Music Star or not. I'll just say what I liked and not liked so far:

The first thing I noticed was that there are no antennas on this version. This is definetaly a positive thing. I had liked the small antenna on the V3 but I think that the antennas on later versions were a little bit over the top. The shape of this tamagotchi is nice and simple, I really like that. Now I have some negative comments about the screen. Although it's a high resolution screen (the same resolution as the V5/V5.5) I think that it looked really faded. Increasing the contrast didn't really help I'm afraid. The contrast option just increases the visibility of all the pixels (including pixels which are supposed to be switched off) which makes it difficult to understand what's really going on on the screen. The buttons is something that I really dislike; I don't know if the particular tamagotchi I bought is defective, but the buttons don't respond very well. I took some pictures of my Tamagotchi Music Star and I'll be commenting on each:

This is the design I chose. I really, really like it. Bandai did a great job on the designs of this Tamagotchi version. Notice the pick on the left; this was included with the tamagotchi (I love freeby stuff :D) and has a code on the back whcih is used on Tama Town (tamatown.com). Also notice the screen, it looks so faded. In the above screenshot you can see the egg. I didn't like that there was a music note on the egg...what's that about? I know that it's supposed to compliment the music theme but it doesn't look right somehow...does anyone feel the same? I'll be talking about the 3 presents later on.


After one minute the egg hatched. I was pleasently surprised to see Petichi back, so cute :) (I named her Cordy). Notice that the three presents were unwrapped to reveal a toy (the duck), 3000 gotchi points (I love it when things get easy ;P) and a musical intrument. Now I haven't really understood if these items can be changed and, if so, how can they be changed? Anyway, the toy is used to decrease stress level but will decrease music skills. The instrument does the exact opposite.


In the above picture you can see the three types of music skills which can be increased by playing the music instrument (mentioned earlier) or playing games.



I don't really know what the above screen means. Maybe it shows what kind of music my tamagotchi likes?

I took some time to visit the new tama town. Logging in was a bit confusing but I have to say that the new Tama town is really good. I LOVED it :D There is a high level of interactiveness involved: you can actually see your character on screen and you can move him/her around the online world. You can also meet other people logged in with their music stars, make friends with them, chat with them exchange gifts and lots of other stuff.


An hour later my tamagotchi grew up into another familar character: Tamatchi: one of my favourite tamagotchi characters of all time. It's starnge that some of the oldest characters are still appearing in the latest Tamagotchi versions. You might recall that Tamatchi first appeared in the P1 in 1996 (the one that started it all).


A few minutes after growing up, an exclamation mark appeared on Cordy's head. I can't recall exactly what I pressed but before I knew it, a small door appeared on the right of the screen, Cordy walked through it and stepped into a huge tub. I was totally not expecting that, it's really cute. Was this something that happened in the V5? (I've never had the V5).
